The Electrocardiogram (ECG) function

A contraction of the heart muscle is caused by an electrical stimulus that is detected on the surface of the body and displayed by an electrocardiogram graphic, known by the ECG abbreviation. A disorder of these electrical signals is called an arrhythmia.

The Veroval® ECG and blood pressure monitor is a single-channel ECG that can detect different arrhythmias for example atrial fibrillation or extra systoles, and therefore helps to make a preliminary assessment by carrying out a basic recording.

It automatically evaluates whether the heart rhythm is normal (Fig. 1), too slow (Fig. 2), too fast (Fig. 3), with pauses (Fig. 4) or irregular (Fig. 5 and 6). This will be shown by clear symbols on the display immediately after the measurement.

In case the result shown is not an ‘OK’ icon, it may have a number of different causes which may be harmless, related to movement during measurement but which may also be triggered by diseases of varying severity. In this case, it is recommended to repeat the measurement and if you keep getting a different icon and not the ‘OK’ icon, please seek medical advice.

The ECG curve can be displayed and shared with the doctor by e-mail or PDF printout. Values can be cross-linked to the data of other Veroval® devices for enabling a comprehensive health analysis that can assist the physician in his therapy recommendation.

The Stroke risk

How does the Stroke happen?

ECG-Product Features-Atrial

Stroke is a very common cause of death in the Middle East, but the good news is that 80% of strokes are preventable!1

In 2019, the World Health Organization found that Stroke is the #2 cause of death in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Oman and the #3 cause of death in Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain.2

The biggest risk factor for developing Strokes is related to cardiac arrhythmias with the Atrial Fibrillation being the most frequent type. Atrial Fibrillation is not a direct life-threatening arrhythmia, but it indicates a 5 TIMES increased risk of Stroke! 3,4

When a person has Atrial fibrillation, the beating in the upper chambers of the heart becomes irregular, and blood doesn't flow as well as it should to the lower chambers of the heart. This means that the heart beats unevenly and can lead to blood clotting that will cause the stroke to happen.

You might have it but not know it

ECG-Product Features_Atrial Fibrillation

The challenge is that Atrial fibrillation, the most common type of cardiac arrhythmia, can be silent in 15% to 30% of the cases1, 2. It takes years to develop from ‘silent’ Atrial fibrillation to ‘persistent’1,2 and can have a triad of symptoms of racing heart, shortness of breath and dizziness…3

Therefore, a lot of people rarely feel their arrhythmia and it may come in a clustered way with several weeks in between which makes it very hard to detect!

That’s why, having the mobile Veroval® 2 in 1 ECG and Blood Pressure Monitor at your fingertips can make the heart assessment quick and easy thanks to repeatedly intermittent ECG recording at home allowing sporadic rhythm abnormalities to be detected.

The ECG recording

When to make an ECG recording at home?

ECG-Product Features-recording at home

Lots of people rarely feel their arrhythmias. Atrial fibrillation, the most common type of cardiac arrhythmia, can be asymptomatic or characterized by a markedly accelerated, constantly irregular heartbeat that can lead to blood clots causing stroke!

The challenge is that it can only be detected the moment it occurred. Therefore, the conventional methods have limitation in discovering arrhythmias such as Atrial fibrillations that are taking years to develop from ‘silent’ to ‘persistent’.1

As per the guidelines from the European Society of Cardiology, it has been estimated that daily and symptom-activated event recordings may document the arrhythmia in approximately 70% of Atrial fibrillation patients.2,3

Other studies have proven that an intermittent 30 seconds recording with a home handy single channel ECG device twice daily (morning and evening) for 28 days, is more effective than 24-hour Holter ECG in the detection of arrhythmias for both asymptomatic and symptomatic Atrial fibrillations.4,5

That’s why, the experts recommend making repeated and intermittent 30 seconds ECG home recording twice daily (morning and evening) with Veroval® 2 in 1 ECG and Blood Pressure Monitor for the cases of silent Atrial fibrillation and anytime you feel any symptoms.

Using the Veroval® medi.connect software, the results recorded can be graphed and shared by email with your doctor! This allows your doctor to make a rapid further diagnosis.

Please keep in mind that recording your own ECG is not a substitute for medical treatment! Do not interpret the electrocardiograms by yourself and do not use them for self-prescribed treatment. Immediately seek medical treatment, regardless of the measurement result, if you notice any symptoms that may indicate an acute heart disease (this list is not exhaustive): pain on the left side or a feeling of pressure in the chest or abdominal region; radiating pain in the mouth/jaw/ face, shoulder, arm or hand; pain around the back; nausea; burning in the chest area; tendency to collapse; difficulty breathing; racing heart or irregular heart rhythm.

Arrhythmia and High blood pressure - An unfortunate combination
FAQ-ICON
How does stroke prevention work?

Stroke prevention is especially important for people over the age of 50, or people suffering from hypertension, diabetes or hyperlipidemia. In general, there are two important factors which are accountable for heart attacks and particularly strokes: these are high blood pressure and irregular heartbeat, particularly atrial fibrillation.

Therefore, our Veroval®combination device is the ideal monitoring product to check those factors regularly. The good news is that more than 80 % of strokes can be prevented. Beside some non-influencable risk factors, such as old age, being male, family history or having already suffered a stroke, you can reduce your stroke risk by:

  1. Taking charge of your own health and living a healthy lifestyle: eat healthy, stay active, avoid smoking and drinking too much alcohol.
  2. Managing your blood pressure, ECG, cholesterol and diabetes.
  3. Taking your medication as recommended by your doctor.

Talk to your doctor about your stroke risk and set up a prevention plan that’s individually tailored for you.

How many measurements does the Veroval® ECG and Blood Pressure Monitor store?
The 2 in 1 Veroval®ECG and blood pressure monitor stores up to a total of 128 ECG and/or blood pressure readings, including the date and time of the measurement (64 readings for each of the 2 users). The most recently measured value is displayed first, and the oldest last. Once all memory slots are occupied, the oldest value is deleted.
Speak-up to your doctor

The Veroval®ECG and blood pressure monitor is a single channel ECG that can detect various arrhythmias – for example atrial fibrillation, extrasystoles – and therefore helps to make a preliminary assessment by carrying out a basic recording.

  • If status messages repeatedly deviate from the norm, it is recommended to undergo a medical examination.
  • Regardless of the measurement result, the patient must immediately seek medical treatment by a doctor if he/she notices any symptoms that may indicate acute heart disease.

Recording a 1-lead ECG is not a substitute for medical treatment! The device is not a substitute for either a medical examination of heart function, nor recording of a medical electrocardiogram, which must be obtained using more elaborate measuring equipment. The device does not diagnose any medical conditions that may be the possible cause of the change observed in the ECG.
